Northwestern completes sweep of Rock Hill

We started our home campaign off with a victory over Rock Hill High tonight. I was nervous entering the match that we might have a letdown after beating them last Thursday, but the girls played very well and held firm to complete the sweep of our cross town rival. Let's hope the football team follows our lead on Friday!

Brittany Whitrock again wasted no time in her victory for our first point. She eliminated many unforced errors and made quick work of her opponent again with a closer score of 6-1, 6-2.

Ruth Anne Burnette again had the headband kickin' and again was successful in a fairly dominant win. The match had some long rallies and Ruth Anne held firm to secure a 6-2, 6-1 victory.

Kayla Stogner and Courtney Cox teamed up again and were successful again at the 2 doubles line. After a close firs set 6-2 win, the girls played extremely strong to go up 5-0 before closing it out 6-2.

Joanna Kohn clinched the overall match for us as the skies darkened above. Rock Hill's #5 put up a really good fight and made Joanna earn the victory in the end. She finished out strong to clinch our decisive 4th point.

Chandler Green again had a tough one against Rock Hill's 1 singles player. Even despite the result, Chandler played tough and made her opponent earn points and gave very little away. We are all confident that Chandler is going to use these last two matches as stepping stones to the rest of the season.

Maggie Orr played 2 singles again and got off to a blitzing start to post a bagel on her opponent in the first set. The second set made us all nervous and I was happy to see the whole team pull together to cheer Maggie on to victory in the second set 6-4.

We decided not to play a 1 doubles point due to the black clouds overhead. I don't like to do this as I like to see the team play as much doubles as we can. I was even more perturbed when the skies cleared up to a pretty blue sky within minutes of us making this decision. That's the way it happens sometimes.

We'll hopefully practice tomorrow in preparation for South Pointe on Thursday. I'll call Ruth Anne if the weather turns on us, but we'll hope it stays clear until 7 for us.

Go Trojans!
